Senator Patricia Jehlen Named to Committee Posts for 2019-2020 Legislative Session

BOSTON – Yesterday Senate President Karen Spilka appointed Senator Patricia Jehlen (D-Somerville) to multiple committee posts for the 2019-2020 legislative session. Senator Jehlen will serve as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development, Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs, and as Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Marijuana Policy.

“Growing inequality of income, wealth, opportunity and power is one of our greatest challenges, and exacerbates issues like housing, education, and retirement security. The committee on labor and workforce development can help address these problems,” said Senator Jehlen. “I have also focused much of my legislative career on creating policy that promotes economic security for older adults and provides them housing choices that are affordable, safe, and do not lead to isolation. On the Elder Affairs Committee, we will also need to seek safe and high quality care in a range of settings from home care to assisted living to residential homes to nursing homes. I am pleased the Senate President entrusted me with these positions.”

Senator Jehlen will also serve on the Joint Committees on Ways and Means, Revenue, and Community Development and Small Businesses, as well as the Senate Committee on Ways and Means.
